Environmental Activism

Each year our Conservation Chairperson attends a meeting in Washington as a participant of GCA's National Affairs and Legislation Committee, which presents several days of meetings with key leaders on current environmental legislation. After these presentations, GCA members have appointments with each person's representatives. This presence in D.C. has created respectable clout for the Garden Clubs of America.

Local action taken by the club include:

1998 Rallied state garden clubs to support Open Space acquisition
Since 2004, ongoing Partners in Plants project to eradicate invasive plants and preserve endangered native plants
2010 Produced a DVD on the importance of supporting local agriculture

Supports the Lawn-care Pesticide Preemption Statute.

Since 2000, MGC sends 2 members to Washington DC to a yearly National Affairs and Legislation Meeting
